“Food for Gaza” meeting at the Farnesina. Tajani calls on Israel to accelerate entry of humanitarian aid. Additional sick Palestinian children to be evacuated. New funds for the WFP

Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani chaired a new meeting this evening at the Farnesina focused on the crisis in the Middle East and the humanitarian emergency in Gaza.

The Italian Government is stepping up ongoing humanitarian initiatives under the “Food for Gaza” operation.

Minister Tajani instructed the Italian Ambassador in Tel Aviv to request that the Israeli Government unblock the entry and distribution of aid currently held at the Port of Ashdod.

A new evacuation operation has also been finalised for additional sick Palestinian children. A total of 50 individuals, including accompanying adults, will be treated in Italian hospitals in collaboration with the Civil Protection Department.

At the Minister’s request, a further EUR 5 million will be allocated to the World Food Programme for additional humanitarian assistance.

Finally, in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, concrete options are being explored for airdropping humanitarian aid.
