Meeting to strengthen Italy–Mozambique trade relations

On the occasion of the first official visit to Italy by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, a meeting to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations was held today in Rome. Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Giorgio Silli participated on behalf of Minister Antonio Tajani.

In his address, the Undersecretary emphasised that Mozambique remains a strategic partner for Italy in Africa, a priority country under the Mattei Plan and for our development cooperation, as well as for bilateral trade. In the first eight months of 2025, bilateral trade exceeded EUR 424 million, representing an increase of over 20% compared with the same period in 2024. Italian foreign direct investment in Mozambique has nearly reached EUR 200 million.

“The bond of friendship between Italy and Mozambique is deep and sincere, and this year celebrates the first 50 years of diplomatic relations,” concluded the Undersecretary, highlighting the Government’s intention to further strengthen relations in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth training, to the benefit of Italian companies.
