Today, the Plenary Meeting of Security Experts of the Ministry of the Interior concluded at the Interagency Law Enforcement Academy of Advanced Studies. The event was attended by Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi, on behalf of Minister Tajani. Continuing the practice established in 2024, the presence of a political representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Plenary sends a clear signal of the growing attention dedicated to the Network of Experts, a key component in safeguarding national security within an international context characterised by increasingly complex threats.
In her address, the Undersecretary highlighted Italy’s commitment in Africa, with particular reference to West Africa and the Sahel, regions where poverty, institutional instability, and the activities of terrorist groups intersect. “West Africa and the Sahel today represent one of the most significant testing grounds for our security. Monitoring developments in these areas is essential to prevent impacts on regional stability and our national interests,” stated Tripodi, recalling Italy’s participation in the High-Level event of the Aqaba Process and emphasising the importance of countering the growing interconnection between criminal networks, terrorism, and illicit trafficking.
Tripodi also underlined the indispensable role of the Network of Security Experts, which covers 85 countries, serving as a strategic resource to support diplomatic missions in preventing crime, transnational illicit trafficking, and terrorism. “The structured collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of the Interior,” she concluded, “strengthens Italy’s capacity to operate in the most sensitive contexts, contributing to the stability of partner countries and the protection of national interests”.
