For the first time, Italy will be the guest of honour at the Warsaw International Book Fair to be held at the Palace of Culture and Science from 23 to 26 May 2024. The agreement was signed at the Italian Embassy in Poland by Ambassador Luca Franchetti Pardo, representing Italy, and by Waldemar Michalski and Jacek Oryl – respectively President and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the “History and Culture” Foundation, which organises the Fair – representing Poland.
The Book Fair is a central event in the Polish capital’s cultural calendar, bringing together numerous exhibitors from Poland and from different countries around the world. Italy will be at the centre of this year’s edition with a broad range of events, including book presentations, meetings with authors and between professionals of the sector. It will be an excellent opportunity to get to know and promote the Italian publishing world in Poland.
“The Warsaw Book Fair, which this year will have Italy as its guest of honour, will represent an extraordinary opportunity for the Italian publishing industry to promote itself in a market with 40 million inhabitants, which, as I have been able to experience on several occasions, nurtures a deep and sincere interest, almost ‘a craving’, for Italian culture in its different manifestations”, said Ambassador Franchetti Pardo.
Italy’s participation was made possible thanks to the collaboration and support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Ministry of Culture (Centre for Books and Reading -CEPELL), the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and the Italian Publisher’s Association and was coordinated, in Poland, by the Italian Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institute and the ICE Office in Warsaw.
