“The efforts undertaken by the Italian Embassy to present and promote in Georgia the diversity and cultural heritage of Italy, a country that plays a leading role on the international cultural scene, continue. Today we have brought the art of two Italian geniuses, Michelangelo Buonarroti and Raffaello Sanzio, to Tbilisi – this time in the form of a performance combining the figurative arts, music and theatre,” said Ambassador of Italy to Georgia Massimiliano D’Antuono to the numerous guests attending the event, organised yesterday by the Italian Embassy at the historical State Drama Theatre Kote Marjanishvili in Tbilisi.
The Neapolitan theatre company “Teatri 35”, which has been active in the field of theatrical experimentation for more than 20 years, brought to the stage a ‘tableaux vivants’ performance, a tribute to the genius of Michelangelo’s sculpture and the divine in Raphael’s paintings. Thanks to the perfect balance of gestures, colours, visual perceptions and music, the audience was able to experience a new way of conceiving art and live a unique experience, immersing themselves in the works of the two great artists of the Italian Renaissance.
The actors (Gaetano Coccia, Francesco O. De Santis, Antonella Parrella, Nicola Varallo, Andrea Loffa, Vittoria Rejna Negri and Martina Mirco) ‘brought to life’ some 20 of the most famous works by the two Italian geniuses, while pieces by the greatest Baroque composers including Vivaldi, Bach, Corelli, Händel, Merula and Locatelli were performed by Azerbaijani countertenor Ilham Nazarov, Georgian theorbist Giorgi Kuzanashvili and the State Chamber Orchestra ‘Georgian Sinfonietta’.
The show, whose performance in Georgia was made possible thanks to the support of TBC Bank, sponsor of the cultural activities promoted by the Italian Embassy in Georgia in 2024, is part of a promotional event organised by the Italian Embassy in Georgia on behalf of the Campania Region, to be held in the capital of Georgia in the autumn of 2024. The show was a great success and ended with a very long applause and standing ovation from the audience.
