The Italian Cultural Institute in Almaty is hosting an unprecedented photographic exhibition (28 September-1 November) dedicated to Marcello Mastroianni and his special bond with Federico Fellini. Inaugurated byAmbassador Marco Alberti and the Director of the Institute of Culture, Edoardo Crisafulli, the exhibition, entitled ‘Happy Birthday Marcello’, was conceived and curated by journalist and writer Francesca Fabbri Fellini, the director’s niece, who was present at the inauguration.
Thirty exceptional shots by important photographers such as the historical paparazzo Pierluigi Praturlon, taken from the archives of Reporters Associati & Archives, immortalise some of the moments of Marcello Mastroianni’s career, from ‘La Dolce Vita’, which made him internationally famous, to ‘Marriage Italian Style’, ‘A Special Day’, ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’, ‘Ginger and Fred’. The exhibition received the patronage of the “Mastroianni 100” Committee, chaired by Daniele Luxardo.
The exhibition, curated by Francesca Fabbri Fellini in synergy with the Institute, also celebrates Sophia Loren’s 90th birthday (20 September). Loren starred together with Mastroianni in many successful films, both with the public and with critics. The media impact of the exhibition was considerable, also thanks to the interview given by Francesca Fabbri Fellini to Kazakhstan TV’s First Channel EURASIA (about 17 million viewers).
Finally, together with film critic Oleg Boretskiy, who also curated a mini-film festival dedicated to Mastroianni, Francesca Fabbri Fellini presented a special screening of “La Dolce Vita” in a film theatre full of Mastroianni enthusiasts.
