A musical evening – “The Myth of Stradivarius”

Villa Berg hosted an exceptional concert on Friday last. The event marked the ending of an exhibition entitled “The Myth of Stradivarius”, hosted by the Russian National Music Museum. Jointly organized by the Russian National Music Museum, the Violin Museum of Cremona and the Fondazione Antonio Stradivari, the exhibition showcased 15 masterpieces by Amati, Guarnieri, Ceruti and, naturally, Stradivarius to tells the history of the great tradition of violin-making of the city of Cremona. Two talented young soloists, Giuseppe Gibboni and Pavel Sedov, had the opportunity of playing some of these unique instruments. Accompanied by Vitaly Yunitskij at the piano, Gibboni and Sedov performed in a rich programme from Paganini to Rimskij-Korsakov.The mayor of Cremona, Galimberti, and the Rector of the University of Pavia, Rugge, led the Italian delegation. They met the Director of the Music Conservatory of Moscow, Solovev, and the Director of the Russian National Music Museum, Bryzgalov before the concert started. They talked about the drawing up of an action plan to train professionals in the field of the restoration and preservation of musical instruments, as well as to have Russian students attend the university course for the restoration of musical instruments at the University of Pavia.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister Olga Golodets and the Director of the Russian National Music Museum, Mikhail Bryzgalov, the President of the Fondazione Antonio Stradivari, Paolo Bodini, and the Director of Cremona Violin Museum, Virginia Villa. The opening remarks were made by Ambassador Terracciano, who highlighted the great success of the exhibition, and the passion and professionalism that have always characterized musical cooperation projects between Italy and the Russian Federation.
