After the success of “Vizita”, director Davide Iodice and playwright Fabio Pisano have created a new play freely inspired by Goethe’s “Faust”, as produced by the National Theatre of Tirana and co-produced by Sardegna Teatro, with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Tirana.

The play debuted last 29 October at the ArTurbina Theatre. After the first dates sold out, five more performances were added until 1 December.

In this rendition, Faust represents a modern man who no longer fears the devil, who is seen not so much as a temptation, but as the inevitable evil that life entails. Faust chooses to surrender his soul in exchange for a moment of eternity.

Iodice’s staging recalls all the symbolic elements characteristic of his theatrical poetics, whereby we enter the increasingly narrow tunnel of Professor Faust’s mind through the use and transformation of symbols. In this burrow, freedom emerges from above, like a liberation, an asceticism – the ultimate road to condemnation or redemption.
