The Italian Cultural Institute of New Delhi, in collaboration with the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, presents an exhibition at the KNMA in Noida dedicated to the relationship between Italian literature and design.
The exhibition, titled “Objects between the lines“, curated by Andrea Anastasio, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, and Domitilla Dardi, design historian and curator, will be open to the public until 22 February.
The exhibition highlights the deep connection between literary texts and everyday objects. Conceived by Dardi, it focuses on objects described in literature that are not merely background elements but become protagonists in the events narrated in stories and novels.
Produced by the Italian Cultural Institute of New Delhi, the exhibition explores the relationship between two major disciplines of Italian and Indian creative thought – literature and design – and is divided into three sections:
- “Found in Translation“, dedicated to objects born from the literary imagination of writers and realised by designers who “translate” them into concrete works;
- “Scenarios“, which describes literary scenes reinterpreted through multiple media by contemporary designers;
- “Free Associations“, featuring iconic pieces of Italian design history, freely associated with descriptions found in some masterpieces of Italian literature.
Historical pieces, lent by public institutions and private collections, interact with works commissioned and designed specifically by Italian authors. The exhibition catalogue is published by Dario Cimorelli Editore.
