In the framework of the stop of the Amerigo Vespucci ship in Alexandria, Egypt (February 12-18 February), a ceremony was held on Saturday 15 February 2025 to award the Biblioteca Italia to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt.

The Biblioteca Italia is an important recognition that the Italian Ministry of Culture, in agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, decided to award in 2023 to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, repository of a millenary tradition and holder of one of the most extensive and important book collections in the world.

The Library comprises around 500 books on various topics, ranging from literature to history and the various arts, from geography and landscape to archaeology, gastronomy and cinema. A true journey into the whole of Italian culture, through the works of the greatest classical and modern Italian authors.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, the Italian Ambassador to Cairo, Michele Quaroni, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, Maurizio Guerra, and the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ahmed Abdullah Zayed Hegab.

On the sidelines of the event, there was also the opening ceremony of the exhibition ‘Italians in Egypt’, chaired by the Minister of Culture Giuli, dedicated to Marinetti and Ungaretti, and organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Libraries and Copyright and the National Central Library of Rome.
