The Italian Cultural Institute of Berlin hosted “Piano SLAM – A tribute to Keith Jarrett”, an evening of pure solo piano improvisation featuring seven distinct performances by Antonio Flinta, Davide Incorvaia, Aviya Kopelman, Andrea Marcelli, Stefan Rusconi, Kelvin Sholar, and Lennart Smidt – seven musicians, both Italian and international, active on the Berlin, Italian, and global music scenes.
On the occasion of the 2025 Berlinale premiere of “Köln75”, directed by Ido Fluk, the Italian Cultural Institute of Berlin, in collaboration with One Two Films and Claudiatomassini + associates, organised an emotionally charged and internationally resonant event. The audience responded with a standing ovation at the end of the concert.
The musicians – among them Stefan Rusconi, composer of the original soundtrack for the film – took to the stage one after another to improvise pieces inspired by the legendary album “Köln75” by Keith Jarrett, recorded at the Cologne Opera House in 1975. The film by Ido Fluk revisits the story behind this iconic performance. The pianists’ creativity and sensitivity culminated in a collective improvisation on the Fazioli F212 grand piano, delivering a powerful and moving finale to the evening.
The event was graced by the presence of the film’s leading actress, Mala Emde, as guest of honour.
