The recital “From Italy to France“, held at the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo, has come to a close. The event was organised with the support of NextGenerationEU, the Italian Ministry of University and Research, and Italia Domani – National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The stage of the Umberto Agnelli Auditorium welcomed violinist Letizia Gullino and pianist Luca Troncarelli, two young Italian musicians from the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatoire in Turin. Winners of the 2022 edition of the Premio delle Arti – Chamber Music category – they were selected to represent their institution in Tokyo as part of the “International Routes: Arts Creating Future” project.

The concert offered an engaging dialogue between two great chamber music traditions – Italian and French – featuring works by renowned composers such as Niccolò Paganini, Gabriel Fauré and Ottorino Respighi, alongside lesser-known figures like Leone Sinigaglia.

The recital opened with Letizia Gullino’s performance of Paganini’s Caprice No. 11 for solo violin. This was followed by Fauré’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 13 and Four Short Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 25 by Leone Sinigaglia.

Luca Troncarelli then performed Fauré’s Barcarolle, Op. 66. The concert continued with Respighi’s Sonata in B minor, P. 110. The evening concluded with Amy Beach’s Romance for Violin and Piano and Kleiner Mohrentanz from Four Bagatelles, Op. 28 by Ferruccio Busoni.
