After opening on 17 June, until 22 July, 2025, the movie theatre Pathé in Dakar will host some exclusive film previews that show the plural, innovative and deeply human face of contemporary Italian cinema. This is the goal of “Italian Screens“, an initiative organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Dakar in the wake of “Fare Cinema“, the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dedicated to the promotion of the Italian film industry in the world.

The program in Dakar provides a selection of works that focus on the great themes of our time – from memory to immigration, from environmental protection to identity – offering the Senegalese public stories of extraordinary narrative and visual intensity.

The event opened with “Vermiglio”, Silver Lion at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, a powerful film that tells the story of a family living in the Italian Alps at the end of World War II, with a particular focus on female characters.

The program also features the screenings of “Samia”, based on Giuseppe Catozzella’s international bestseller “Non dirmi che hai paura”, and “Anywhere Anytime”, two touching stories that explore the dynamics of immigration, between the Olympic dream and the search for dignity.

A special screening of the documentary film “Breath” by Dakar-born Italian director Ilaria Congiu, which explores the relationship between man and the sea and the environmental challenges in the Mediterranean and West Africa, was accompanied by a masterclass of the director, in collaboration with the Kourtrajmé School of Dakar.

The event will close with “Diamanti” and “Il tempo che ci vuole”, two films that take us behind the scenes of cinema creation, between emotional bonds, family memory and artistic passion.
