Waterford Walls is Ireland’s largest international Street Art festival, celebrating the work of artists from around the world and combining their spectacular public art with music events, workshops and guided tours.
Thanks to the ongoing collaboration—now in its fourth consecutive year—between the Italian Cultural Institute of Dublin and Waterford Walls, the Taranto-born artist Mr. Blob has been selected to join the line-up of Street Artists for the 2025 edition, chosen from among 1,400 applicants.
Between 2022 and 2024, the Italian Cultural Institute of Dublin enabled four Italian artists (Iena Cruz, Chekos, LuogoComune and Rame13) to take part in the festival. The 2024 edition of Waterford Walls featured 47 artists from 11 countries, who transformed 55 urban spaces to the delight of 30,000 visitors.
In the words of Mr. Blob: “The work I created in Waterford depicts a mystical creature: a plant whose soul is made of crystal. Its roots and branches intertwine in a protective embrace.
This creature is my representation of the strength and resilience of nature, carrying a message of peace. The lights and glimmers are not mere details, but represent the vital energy that radiates from the heart of the plant to reach all who observe it.
Every shade of colour and every detail has been carefully considered to offer a complete visual and sensory experience. My works are distinguished by their richness of detail, which invites the viewer to a deeper contemplation, beyond a superficial glance. The message of this piece lies precisely in this invitation: to look again, to question, to develop one’s own critical and, above all, creative thought”.
