In the presence of Ambassador Luca Franchetti Pardo, the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw hosted the opening of the exhibition “Giorgio Morandi”, the first-ever show in Poland dedicated to the renowned Bolognese artist. The exhibition, held under the honorary patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Poland, has been organised in collaboration with the Morandi Museum of Bologna, with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Warsaw.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Franchetti Pardo emphasised how Morandi profoundly embodies the Italian cultural identity through a poetic style marked by restraint and introspection — a vision that skilfully bridges tradition and modernity. He further highlighted the relevance and uniqueness of Morandi’s artistic language, which invites the viewer to observe the world with renewed awareness and attentiveness. It is precisely this universal dimension that makes the presentation of his work in Warsaw particularly meaningful, offering his art to a new and diverse audience.
Also speaking at the inauguration were Agnieszka Pindera, Director of the Zachęta Gallery, and Lorenzo Balbi, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna and of the Morandi Museum, as well as curator of the exhibition. The show traces the entire artistic career of Giorgio Morandi, from his early works in the 1920s to his mature period, offering the Polish public a rare opportunity to engage with his distinctive artistic vision.
The exhibition includes paintings, etchings, watercolours, and drawings, highlighting not only the evolution of his technical and stylistic approach but also his deep connection to the great tradition of Italian and European painting, from Giotto and Piero della Francesca to Cézanne and Corot.
