A resounding success for the performance “Opera, Amore” at the Giuseppe Verdi Auditorium of the Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa. The production, born from a collaboration between the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and its Academy, is a journey through the history of Italian melodrama and a heartfelt tribute to the tradition of Italian opera.
“Opera, Amore – Metaopera in One Act” retraces more than four centuries of Italian operatic heritage. The timeless operatic triangle — she, he, and the other — in which love between the first two is challenged by the third, unfolds through the masterpieces of Monteverdi, Pergolesi, Mozart, Paisiello, Cimarosa, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Mascagni, and Giordano, all the way to Puccini.
The performance was directed by Francesco Micheli, with music by Federico Gon, libretto and dramaturgy by Alberto Mattioli, and set and costume design by Chiara Taiocchi.
