On Saturday, October 25, the new stop on the tour of the immersive multimedia exhibition “Mosaico. Codice italico di un’arte senza tempo ” (Mosaic. Italian Code of a Timeless Art) opened in Miami. The exhibition, organized by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and commissioned by the specialized company Magister Art, is hosted at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. The project is supported by the local Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate General of Italy.
The exhibition aims to showcase Italy’s archaeological heritage worldwide, with particular emphasis on mosaic art and the main sites housing its artifacts (Rome, Pompeii, Aquileia, Ravenna, Palermo, Monreale, Piazza Armerina, and the sunken city of Baia).
For the Miami stop, the multimedia display is enriched with artifacts specially loaned by the Ministry of Culture, Regional Directorate of National Museums (DRM) of the Lazio Region: a pair of mosaics depicting a dog, from the Museum of the Abbey of Montecassino, and a floor belonging to one of Emperor Caligula’s two ships, from the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi.
During the opening ceremony, a message from the Italian Ambassador to the United States, Marco Peronaci, was read. Speakers also included the Consul General of Italy to Miami, Michele Mistò; the Director of the Frost Art Museum, Miriam Machado; the Head of the Exhibitions and Loans Office of the DRM Lazio, Cristiana Ruggini, representing Director Elisabetta Scungio; and the Honorable Andrea Di Giuseppe, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
