On the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of Naples’ founding, the Italian Embassy in the Kingdom of Morocco and the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat have presented the exhibition “Art from the Volcano”. The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and under the auspices of the Neapolis 2500 National Committee. The exhibition runs until 11 January 2025 at the Palazzo delle Istituzioni Italiane in Tangier.

The exhibition highlights the vitality and continuity of the artistic tradition of Naples and the Campania region, featuring works from the post-war period to the present day. Its title evokes Mount Vesuvius as a symbol of energy, creativity, and regenerative power.

Scientific curation is entrusted to Angela Tecce, President of the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina – Museo Madre, and Claudia Borrelli, Senior Curator of the collection at the Museo del Novecento in Naples at Castel Sant’Elmo.

The exhibition comprises 29 works from Naples’ public collections — Madre – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina and Museo del Novecento at Castel Sant’Elmo — by some of the foremost contemporary artists, including Tomaso Binga, Francesco Clemente, Maria Adele Del Vecchio, Mimmo Jodice, Raffaela Mariniello, Umberto Manzo, Mimmo Paladino, Giulia Piscitelli and Marinella Senatore.

The inauguration featured a musical performance intertwining art and tradition: Emilia Zamuner’s voice and Alessandro Morlando’s guitar brought to life pieces from the Neapolitan classical repertoire, thanks to collaboration with CIDIM – Italian National Music Committee and support from the Ministry of Culture.

The exhibition also forms part of the symbolic programme marking the Bicentenary of Diplomatic Relations between Italy and Morocco.
