The exhibition “Giorgio De Chirico – Painting is the Magical Art,” dedicated to the great master of the metaphysical art movement, is currently underway at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague. Curated by Lorenzo Canova, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Molise and member of the Scientific Council of the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, the exhibition is promoted by the Aledya Foundation, and organized together with the Italian Cultural Institute of Prague, in collaboration with the Casa d’Arte San Lorenzo di San Miniato (Pisa), and with the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Prague.
The exhibition features over 70 works from important Italian and European private collections, created from the 1930s to the artist’s final creative periods. It provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of his artistic career, ranging from the celebrated Piazze d’Italia (Italian Piazzas) to metaphs, and engravinysical architectures, from the horses and riders of the Baroque period to the still-lifes he called “silent lives,” all the way to his graphic works, including drawings, lithographgs. Designed specifically for the Institute’s evocative historic premises, the exhibition provides the public with a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the poetics and creative universe of one of the leading figures of 20th-century art.
The Italian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Alessandro Gaudiano, said: “It is a great pleasure to open such a prestigious exhibition in Prague dedicated to Giorgio de Chirico, a central figure of the twentieth century, not only for Italy but for international art. His works express a deep connection to Italian culture and, at the same time, an open and European perspective that, like his works, transcends time. I wish to thank the organizers. I am convinced that such initiatives contribute to further strengthening the cultural dialogue between Italy and the Czech Republic.”
