The Farnesina hosts the Plenary Assembly of the General Council of Italians Abroad(CGIE)with the attendance of 63 Council members representing Italian communities abroad and the Italian civil society organisations engaged in supporting emigrants. The meeting’s agenda includes reforming the bodies representing Italians abroad, the strategy to support the new movement of Italians abroad, the greater resources to be allocated to increase consular services, and the changes introduced by the new election law. The Assembly will also be attended by the Foreign Minister, who is also President of the CGIE. The Plenary will devote part of the session to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first conference entitled “Donne italiane in emigrazione” (“Emigrating Italian Women”). The session’s agenda also envisages the presentation of a publication by the Foreign Ministry and the Emigration Research Centre of Rome, which explores Italy’s new flow of emigration.
