A full day of training for 76 young volunteers about to be deployed abroad within the framework of projects developed by the Civilian Peace Corps was hosted at the Farnesina. It was an initiative promoted by the Department for Youth Policies and the Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with a view to promoting solidarity and cooperation in an impartial fashion, with special attention to the protection of social rights, individual social services and education for peace among peoples.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation organised an event to raise awareness among young people on the opportunities and responsibilities they will have to face up to when participating in projects taking place in turbulent areas or zones that are exposed to environmental emergencies. The meeting gave participants an opportunity to engage in a useful debate on their different destinations, their security profiles and rules of conduct as well as on hygiene and sanitary norms with which they will have to comply in order to make this experience a source of personal and professional enrichment, while carrying out non governmental peace actions in the countries of destination in a safe manner and fully aware of the challenges. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry’s Secretariat General, the Crisis Unit and the General Directorates with territorial competence, the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service, the Department of the Civil Protection of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases.
Upon arrival in the countries of destination, the volunteers will participate in training sessions held at the Italian Embassies and Consulates, who will provide further locally contextualised information and suggestions, with special concern for the risk and security profiles.
