Farnesina hosts the 13th Conference of Italian Ambassadors

XIII conferenza ambasciatori e ambasciatrici

The 13th Conference of Italian Ambassadors in the world closes today at the Farnesina. The 3-day conference offered a forum of debate and reflection on the role of the diplomatic network in Italy’s security and growth in a continuously evolving international scenario and in the face of the acceleration imposed by the information and communication revolution.

The Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, opened the Conference with an introductory greeting, followed by the Opening Remarks of Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi and the address by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

The Conference then continued with several working sessions in which Italian Ambassadors addressed the most topical and relevant issues affecting the continuously evolving role of diplomacy, by analysing the instruments available, both traditional and new, in tackling current challenges. Focus was also placed on Italy’s “soft power”, which is put to the test of global competition, and on national interests, strategies and alliances, also in the light of the deep transformation that is undergoing multilateralism as it is conventionally understood.

The Conference closed on 26 July with remarks by Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi and an address by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
