The Third Periodic Review of Human Rights in Italy is underway in Geneva. The Italian Delegation, led by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Hon. Manlio Di Stefano responded to over 120 representative delegations from all geographical areas for this important event in which the situation of human rights is reviewed, in rotation, in all the Member States of the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
“Italy – said the Undersecretary – reiterates that it is necessary to guarantee fundamental rights for all, especially in a problematic world like today’s, which requires a special effort to ensure sustainable socio-economic development, as well as adequate forms of protection and promotion of human rights.”
“It is for this reason – continued Di Stefano – that since April 2019 the Italian Government provides what is referred to a ‘Citizenship Income’ to over 2 million Italians, with the aim of guaranteeing the right to a dignified life for all. We have also promoted a principle that includes not only human rights but also the right to a healthy environment, a “Green New Deal” which is consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that we intend to fully implement by involving the private sector and social organizations. “
