Italy-Libya: training of Libyan teachers to teach Italian

The arrival in Venice of 60 Libyan teachers, who will begin in-person training activities at Ca’ Foscari University to coincide with the opening of the Italian Language Week in the World, marks a step forward in the training activities envisaged by the Agreement signed in Tripoli in December 2020 as part of the strengthening of bilateral relations and in light of the 2008 Treaty of Friendship.

The agreement between the Italian and Libyan Ministries of Education, with the support of the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs, in close coordination with the Italian Embassy in Tripoli, has provided for the selection and training of a first group of teachers who will be involved in the launch of Italian language courses in Libyan secondary schools starting from next school year.

The first part of the course began in September with a series of online learning modules that will now be reinforced by in-person training and internship activities lasting two months.

A Joint Committee, made up of representatives of the respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and the Embassy in Tripoli, has been added to the training and professional course and will have the task of drawing up a syllabus for the teaching of the Italian language in secondary schools in Libya.
