The Farnesina Collection welcomes the work of Marinella Senatore (Cava de’ Tirreni, 1977), an exponent of participatory art and one of the most renowned artists on the international stage.

The banner, set up in the Farnesina Collection’s gallery dedicated to artistic research in the 21st century, comes from a set of banners of the “Protest Forms: Memory and Celebration, 2019-2020” series, which celebrates the revolutionary aesthetics of public art, combining religious tradition and forms of protest.

These banners, which visually recall those of liturgical processions but whose embroidery reveals a social condemnation, stem from the aggregation moments that characterise the performances of Marinella Senatore’s artistic practice. They impose themselves as manifesto images of the community ethics fostered by the artist and find, in the textual synthesis of the slogans, a sort of artistic testament of her social practice.
