The Farnesina will host the presentation, at 10:00 on Wednesday 24 September, of the DUQM Special Economic Zone (SEZAD Duqm) in Oman. Participants will include Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto Della Vedova and President of SEZAD Duqm, Minister Yahya bin Said Al Jabri.
The Duqm Special Economic Zone, established in October 2011, is a long-term project aimed at attracting and promoting national and international investments in Duqm.
The zone is located in the central Al Wusta region, halfway between Mascate and Salalah and, according to the project’s promoters, in the largest special economic zone in the Middle East.
In line with Sultanate policies on diversification of the national economy, the zone represents a model for integrated economic development comprising 8 areas: a seaport, an industrial area, a new residential city, a fishing port, a tourist resort, a logistics centre, a professional training centre and an airport. According to a multi-decade development plan, the Duqm Zone is destined to become a major intersection for traffic in the region, a logistics hub and an industrial centre
