ACCREDITATION NOTICE – World Food Day Seminar (Roma, Aranciera di San Sisto, 15 October 2014)

On the occasion of World Food Day, and ahead of the international conference on nutrition to be held in Rome from 19 to 21 November and the 2015 EXPO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Directorate General for Development Cooperation has organised a high level seminar. “The role of family farming: from seeds to food, feeding the world while caring for the earth” will take place on Wednesday 14 October in Rome’s Aranceria di San Sisto, located in Via di Valle delle Camene.


The event is being promoted in collaboration with the City of Rome’s Alderman for Environment, Agri-Food and Waste, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Program (WFP), Biodiversity International, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (CIHEAM-Bari), the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) and the “Comitato italiano per le agricolture contadine e l’Anno internazionale per l’agricoltura familiare”. The seminar programme includes three panel discussions dedicated respectively to: “Access to land, support to family farming for sustainable agriculture”; “Natural and genetic resources management for sustainable agricultural production”; and “Local and sustainable food systems to nourish the planet”.


The sessions will open with an address by Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto Della Vedova. Other speakers will include Minister for the EnvironmentGian Luca Galletti;Deputy Minister for Agricultural PoliciesAndrea Olivero;Under-Secretary for Health Vito De Filippo;Deputy Executive Director of WFP Amir Abdullah;Vice-President of IFAD Michel Mordasiniand President of Slow-FoodCarlo Petrini. The closing address will be delivered by FAO Director-GeneralJosé Graziano da Silva.
