Recall First Italy-Africa Ministerial Conference (Farnesina, May 18)

On Wednesday, 18 May at 9:30 a.m., the Farnesina will host the First Italy-Africa Ministerial Conference, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in association with the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).

The Rome-based conference is due to unite 45 ministers from an equal number of African Countries, their Permanent Representatives to the United Nations in New York and the top representatives of around 15 International and Regional Organisations of the UN System. 

The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will open the plenary session and will be followed by speeches by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni and Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad (rotating presidency of the rotating Council of the African Union). The conference will be closed by the Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi. Closing remarks will also be made by the President of the African Union Commission, Dlamini Zuma, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Smail Chergui, and AU Commissioner for Energy, Elaham Ibrahim.

 

The conference will be articulated into a general assembly and in the following

four thematic panels:

 

  • Economic      Sustainability – Italy-Africa, the      challenges of a shared growth

 

The key note speakers of the panel are:

–        Maurizio Martina, Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies

–        Kanyo Nwanze, President of IFAD

–        Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency

 

  • Socio-environmental      Sustainability – The Environment and      Social Development. The 2030 Agenda and a new integrated approach

 

The key note speakers of the panel are:

–        Gianluca Galletti, Minister of the Environment

–        José Graziano Da Silva, Director General of FAO

–        Adnan Amin, IRENA

 

  • Sustainability of      the migration phenomenon – For a new model of      dialogue

 

The key note speakers of the panel are:

–        Angelino Alfano, Minister of the Interior

–        Ertharin Cousin, WFP

–        Laura Thompson, IOM

–        The conclusive remarks will be made by Filippo Grandi, the High Commissioner of the UNHCR.

 

  • Peace and security      – Peace keeping, peace building and African ownership

 

The key note speakers of the panel are:

–        Mario Giro, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

–        Maged Abdelaziz, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Africa, OSAA

–        Zaineb Bangura, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual   Violence in Conflict

 

 

The Conference has scheduled the following press opportunities:

 

  • 9:30 a.m. – opening session
  • 3:00 p.m. – family photo (photographers and TV crews)
  • followed by – closing session

 

 

 

For logistic reasons, journalists will be able to follow the opening and closing sessions in the listening room while photographers and TV crews will be allowed into the conference hall.

 

Journalists, photographers and TV crews interested in following the event are requested to apply for online accreditation by filling the interactive form at the link http://mae.accreditationsystem.info/ITA/Indice.asp, attaching thereto, unless already provided, the information requested in digital format (letter from the media organisation and, for representatives of foreign media, also a Note Verbal released by the Embassy in Rome of the media organisation’s Country) by and no later than 2:00 p.m. on 17 May.

 

If it is not possible to complete the online accreditation procedure, applications should be sent by email to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Institutional Press and Communication Service at the following address: accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel.  +39 06/3691.3432 – 06/3691.3070).

 

Accredited journalists, photographers and TV crews should enter the Ministry from the rear entrance on Via della Macchia della Farnesina at the following time slots:

 

 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.        for the opening session

 1:45 – 2:15 p.m.        for the family photo (only photographers and TV crews)

and for the closing session (all media representatives)

 

To apply for a permit to position satellite trucks, the licence plate number and truck

model must be sent along with the personal data of crew members to the following address accreditamentostampa@esteri.it (tel. + 39 06/3691.3432-8573-8210) by and no later than 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 17 May.

 

After receiving authorisation, the satellite trucks can be positioned between Via

Tommaso Tittoni and Viale Alberto Blanc (in correspondence with the Olympic-Stadium side entrance to the Ministry) on Tuesday 17 May at 3:00 p.m.
