Brand Italy recorded a big success in Dubai. Italian company Rimond-Cimolai won a 60 million-euro contract to build the mega-dome of the Al Wasl Plaza, probably the Universal Expo’s most iconic landmark.
In the plans of the Organising Committee, the Al Wasl Plaza is crowned by a dome 70 m tall and 150 m wide, constructed in a complex inter-woven curved stainless steel and translucid structure on which to project images, which will constitute the “throbbing heart” of EXPO 2020 and the principal visitor gathering point, just as the “Tree of Life” was at Milan.
The adjudication comes only two weeks after the visit to the UAE by the Italian Prime Minister and his talks with his counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Italian company was constructively assisted by our Embassy in Abu Dhabi in singling out a local partner with which to establish a company under UAE law to facilitate its participation in the call for bids for infrastructural work for EXPO 2020.
In parallel, Cimolai-Rimond had obtained a financing from SIMEST to support its establishment in the UAE, after it participated in business missions led by Minister Martina and Undersecretary Scalfarotto in 2016.
