Toronto hosts “Mamma: in the Meantime”, a photographic tale

“Mamma: in the Meantime” is a heart-breaking photographic tale of an extraordinary and unconventional relationship between an artist and his muse. The exhibition will run from 15 February to 3 April at Toronto’s Joseph D. Carrier Gallery.
Tony and his ninety-four-year-old mother Elia embark on a journey in which art becomes the perfect means to express the bereavement and the marvels of living with dementia.

Elia’s strong personality, which proudfully shows the sign of the passing of time, leads us into unknown territory, made up of simple discoveries, renewed pleasures and everyday hardships.
Poetic moments are captured by the loving and obliging look of her son Tony. A visual will that reminds us that life and its challenges are worthwhile living.
Aging is one of the most difficult truths that we are all called on to accept.

With his work, he elegantly and delicately tackles this theme: a brilliant example of how a symbiosis between an artist and his muse can express a message of hope.
The exhibition is organised by Villa Charities with the support of the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce and of the Italian Cultural Institute.
