A ILUSÃO PERFEITA by PIETRO RUFFO in Lisbon

Contemporary art exhibitions are continuing to be held at the Lisbon Italian Cultural Institute, including a selection of works by Pietro Ruffo that will be shown in his solo exhibition ‘A Ilusão Perfeita’. The artist will attend the opening, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 18 May, in the former Chapel of the Italian Cultural Institute at its seat in Rua do Salitre, 146 in Lisbon.

The Exhibition forms part of the ARCO Lisboa 2018 programme of artistic events, and will be introduced by Prof. João Peixoto, President of the Department of Social Sciences of the ISEG, University of Lisbon.

“The “Migrations” series is the first solo exhibition by the artist to be held in Lisbon: A ILUSÃO PERFEITA examines the relationship between geographic identity and migration. The swarms of human figures enclosed or superimposed with imaginative maps evoke the exhausting, never-ending conflict between sovereignty and national identity and the desire for freedom and refuge by hordes of migrants. Ruffo’s timeless images allow the present-day drama of the unresolved issue of a colonial past to emerge, irrevocably influencing our vision of the future of humanity. (Luisa Violo, Director of the Lisbon Italian Cultural Institute)”
