The concert by the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio at the Ibn Zeydoun Hall in Algiers on 29 May was a great hit. The concert was part of the Italy Cultures Mediterranean cultural programme and was co-organised by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers.
Conducted by Mario Tronco, the multi-ethnic Orchestra is the largest in Europe and received a very warm welcome by a full house. The Orchestra presented a greatly varied and evocative repertory which is the fruit of the musical creativity of its thirteen musicians from different Countries.
A cross-fertilisation that aroused great enthusiasm among the audience, with many of the people leaving their seats to come dance under the stage well into the night to the many melodies ranging from the musical repertory of Tunisia, Egypt and South America, to the evergreen, ingenious and colourful song by Renato Carosone, Caravan petrol, a homage to the Neapolitan culture which was greeted by a standing ovation.
The performance, also thanks to the happy coincidence of having fallen within the festivities of Ramadan, fully expressed the spirit and contents of the Italy Cultures Mediterranean programme, which aims to promote intercultural dialogue by highlighting the wealth of an inter-ethnic approach, focusing on Italy as a bridge between cultures.
