Bosnia and Herzegovina: Italian Cooperation to support the restoration of archaeological sites

Financing the restoration of archaeological sites to relaunch tourism in the Country

The Italian Development Cooperation system will give UNDP one million euros to carry out the restoration of archaeological sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a view to protecting the ancient Via Dinarica trail and surrounding natural areas. The goal is to promote sustainable tourism, which is based on the beauty of natural areas, traditional produce and cultural heritage. In turn, it would trigger the economic development of the region and create new job opportunities.

The middle-term goal is to set in motion an economic and social renewal in an area where the wounds of the 1992-1995 war are still felt and difficult to heal. Promoting the development of the region would be pivotal in securing stability and a peaceful interethnic coexistence.
