Gambia: the Italian Cooperation service committed to assure vaccines

The components of the delegation that will travel to Gambia on an awareness-raising programme promoted by GAVI, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation, will be from 6 national newspapers and media organisations (La Repubblica, La Stampa, Mediaset, Wired, F Magazine, Vanity Fair).

The initiative, which envisages a series of institutional meetings in Banjul and visits to out-of-town medical facilities, aims to promote the work of the Alliance by leveraging the financial contributions of donor Countries, including Italy, its sixth-largest donor in absolute terms.

GAVI, which has made it possible to vaccinate more than 700 million people since 2000, represents the second most important organisation to which the Italian Cooperation service contributes financially, with almost 100 million euros allocated over the 2016-2020 five-year period. This testifies to the importance that Italy attributes to the health sector in its action to foster sustainable development.
