Italy and Hesse State renew the MoU on bilingual courses

A few days ago, the Italian Consul General in Frankfurt, Counsellor of Legation Maurizio Canfora, and the Minister of Education of Hesse State, Prof. Dr R. Alexander Lorz, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperating in offering bilingual courses in local primary and secondary schools.

The MoU was signed at an informal ceremony held at one of the new schools that joined the programme, at the presence of the Italian and German members of the teaching staff, the school directors, the representatives of the CGIE and COMITES and of the parent association “biLiS”, and the students enrolled in the bilingual classes.

The cooperation between Italy and the Hesse State in the education sector began with the signing of a first MoU in 1997, which was followed by subsequent protocols in 2004 and 2010.

The MoU introduces a number of improvements to the ongoing cooperation, also in the light of the twenty-year-long experience acquired up to now. The initiative has been formally extended to a third primary school called Willemerschule. Furthermore, the curriculum has been extended to include a ‘Realschule’ (providing technical and vocational training in Germany) while an ad hoc implementation regulation lays the ground for greater flexibility in the allocating the teachers sent from Italy to the different schools taking part in the programme.
