Giorgio de Chirico as the source of inspiration of Belgian surrealism in a thematic itinerary that sheds light on the universe of this artist who, to some extent, remains enigmatic. The presentation of the exhibition “Giorgio de Chirico. At the origin of Belgian Surrealism: René Magritte, Paul Delvaux, Jane Graverol’’, that will open to the public on 16 February at Musée des Beaux Arts (BAM) of Mons, was hosted at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Brussels, Elena Basile. The exhibition was organised thanks to the partnership with the Musée d’Art Moderne of Paris, which has lent approximately 30 works by the Italian artist, and with the Giorgio de Chirico Foundation of Rome.
The presentation, which was organised in association with the city of Mons, the BAM and with the Wallonia Export-Investment Agency (AWEX), opened with a greeting by Ambassador Basile, followed by an address by the burgomaster of Mons and former Belgian Prime Minister, Elio di Rupo. Present at the presentation were also the Director of the BAM, Xavier Roland, and the former President of the Belgian Constitutional Court, Etienne De Groot. The guests at the presentation included the representatives of a large number of Italian companies operating in Belgium such as Vitrociset, Ferrero, Leonardo, Pirelli, Ariston, FSI, Eni Gas & Power, of law firms and banking institutions, as well as the representatives of Walloon companies that have business relations with Italy.
