La Dolce Vitti opens in Los Angeles at the Cinema Italian Style Festival

La Dolce Vitti, the multimedia show presenting the portrait of one of the best-loved actresses of the Italian cinema, opened in Los Angeles in parallel with the Cinema Italian Style Festival. Hosted at the Italian Cultural Institute with the sponsorship of the Italian Consulate, the show was designed by the Istituto Luce Cinecittà in cooperation with the Experimental Centre of Cinematography, the RAI cinematheques and the Enrico Appetito Archives.

Up to 15 February, visitors will be able to follow the exhibition itinerary unfolding along the 40-year long career of an actress who, through her different roles, succeeded in merging the two souls of Italian cinema: the artistic and the comic. The show not only displays 30 magnificent photographs, some of which are very rare, that depict her both on and off the set, but they are accompanied by the sound of her hoarse voice which later became one of her distinctive traits and most loved by her fans. Thanks to a touch screen, it is possible to access a whole series of precious films, including a one-to-one interview with the video camera of Donatella Baglivo, in which Monica Vitti tells the highlights and best moments of her artistic career.

Her theatre, cinema and TV performances are curated by Nevio De Pascalis, Marco Dionisi and Stefano Stefanutto Rosa and subdivided in three major categories: the theatre, Antonioni and comedy. From her first years at the Silvio d’Amico Academy, the exhibition then moves on to her personal and artistic partnership with Michelangelo Anonioni, who turned her into the embodiment of his art in the early ‘60s in his films L’Avventura, La Notte, L’Eclisse, and Deserto Rosso. These are followed by her comedies and the many testimonials from the people who worked with her, including Ettore Scola, Dino Risi and Steno, Dacia Maraini, Michele Placido, Giancarlo Giannini and Enrico Vanzina.
