The long-standing collaboration between Italian archaeologists and the Sultanate of Oman was celebrated by organising an exhibition at the National Museum of Muscat ‘Dreamers. 40 years of Italian archaeological research in Oman ‘. The exhibition, dedicated to the biographies of scholars who carried out their research in the Sultanate, was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Italy to Oman, Federica Favi, and the Undersecretary for Cultural Heritage of Oman, Salim Al Mahrooqi.
The result of this cooperation is the recovery of an extraordinary cultural heritage and the exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Oman and the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the ISMEO-International Association for Studies on the Mediterranean and the East, highlights the contribution that the missions financed by the Farnesina have given to scientific research on Arabian archeology.
The inauguration of the exhibition, in the presence of representatives of Oman’s institutions, the diplomatic corps and local and foreign scholars, was preceded by a round table on the volume that accompanies the exhibition. The book, published by the Embassy of Italy and ISMEO under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was presented by the President of ISMEO, Adriano Rossi and by the Director of the National Center for Archeology of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MIBACT), Elena Calandra in the presence of numerous Italian and Oman academics. The meeting offered the opportunity to make an evaluation of the results achieved in recent decades with the aim of identifying the possible directions for future activities, centered on the topics of training, conservation and management, and enhancement of cultural heritage.
