To celebrate the Italian Design Day in the World, the Italian Embassy in Kampala, in cooperation with the CAIU (Cultural Association of Italians in Uganda), organised the third edition of the Italy-Uganda ‘(R)Evolution Fashion Show’ at Kampala’s Sheraton Hotel. The event showcased the creations of twenty young Ugandan fashion designers – selected by an independent jury – who were asked to display three dresses each on the catwalk, worn by professional models. The jury of the (R)Evolution Fashion Show 2019 chose Clare Asiimwe (Bantu) to be the winner and she will be welcomed in Rome for a three-week seminar at the Lady Bee Fashion House. The second and third prizes were respectively awarded to Olivia Birabi (Apriolivi creations) and Joyce Namiro (Joia Flury). All the fashion designers who participated in the fashion show received a special mention for their talent, creativity and resolve.
The event’s guest of honour and #vivereALLitaliana ambassador was Olympic gold medal winner and Vice President of CONI, Alessandra Sensini, who walked down the catwalk wearing three attires by Lady Bee. As with previous editions, the revenue from the fashion show will be donated to charity. This year the charity organization chosen was WAWI (Women at Work International), an organization for which Ugandan fashion designer (and member of the jury) Stella Atal is good will ambassador. The revenue will be specifically allocated to the “End Fistula” project.
