The Ankara Piano Festival closed with a greatly acclaimed concert by the exceptional Ramin Bahrami and Danilo Rea piano duo: ‘Bach is in the Air’, which was organised by the Italian Embassy in partnership with Altus Arts & Culture. The duo presented Ramin Bahrami’s extraordinary performances of Bach combined with Danilo Rea’s original jazz improvisations.
The sublime in Bach arises from everyday life. Ramin Bahrami’s Bachian career began with the Aria from the Goldberg Variations and it is also thanks to his untiring dissemination efforts that now Bach is better known than ever before, in Italy and in the world. The ‘Bach is in the Air’ concert arises from a little miracle and Danilo Rea, a great piano improviser with a background of classical studies, had the ingenious intuition to actually perform it. Through improvisation, Rea revolutionises and creates a dovetailing continuum with Bahrami’s original versions of Bach, transforming the language of jazz into a universal message.
