Travelling across Eritrea and Ethiopia

A project entitled “Passaggio in Eritrea ed Etiopia” ( Passage to Ethiopia and Eritrea) offers a  journey across Ethiopia and Eritrea, recounting two countries that after years of war finally started a reconciliation process, which led to the signing of a historic peace deal. The project, curated by Antonio Politano, photographer and journalist, along with ‘Cultura del Viaggio’, a cultural association, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is part of the programme “Italy, Cultures, Africa”,

The landscapes, the culture, as well as the faces of the people and the stories of their everyday lives will be narrated through the photographs and words of a group of Italian, Eritrean and Ethiopian photography students coordinated by Politano. In both Countries, a local photographer/narrator will join the group to expand the narration and enriching it with different perspectives. Asmara and Addis Ababa will host training sessions addressed to local photographers and students who will be given a chance to contribute to the project.

The group started its journey in Danakil, Ethiopia. In the upcoming weeks, it will move along the historic route up to Lake Tana and  Addis Ababa to reach Asmara and continue through the Eritrean plateau all the way to the most remote market towns and islands. A 40-day journey that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will follow through its social media channels.
