Munich: the Voices of the Italian Literature Festival

ILfest – Italienisches Literaturfestival 2019 showcased the liveliness and wide variety of Italy’s latest literary production from 24 to 26 May. It attracted to Munich all the people linked through their love for reading and who share the pleasure of meeting to chat with Italian authors, both in Italian or in German. It is a full-fledged Italian book and literature festival organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, Pasinger Fabrik and by ItalLIBRI, under the patronage of the Italian Consulate General in Munich and of the Kulturreferat der Stadt München.

The event scheduled 10 encounters with writers of fiction, essays and children’s books, a round table on Italian and German publishing companies, and a focus on the challenges faced by the translators of both languages. To crown the event, the agenda scheduled a photographic exhibition on Italian 20th century writers that will run until 30 June, a jazz concert by the Maralli Tucci Quartet and the screening, in Italian with English subtitles, of an instalment of the Rai Fiction series “I bastardi di Pizzofalcone” directed by Maurizio Di Giovanni.

To bind together the Festival’s different souls was the leitmotif “Voci/Stimmen”: featuring, on one side, the voice of characters speaking to visitors and, on the other side, the voice of the author who seeks his own ‘voice’ and style to tell the story that he nurtures in his heart.
