A thunderous applause and standing ovation welcomed the concert of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Antonio Pappano at the international festival “La primavera di Praga”. The Art-Nouveau theater “Obecni Dum”, which was sold out for the occasion, hosted the concert organized in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in the Czech capital and the Italian Cultural Institute, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Orchestra, which had already performed at the 2015 festival, returned to Prague as part of its 2019 European Tour, performing “Night on Bald Mountain” by Modest Petrovic Mussorgskij, Concert n. 1 for violin and orchestra, by Béla Bartók, and Shahrazad op. 35, by Nikolaj Rimsky-Korsakov. After concluding the program the orchestra performed a number of encores including the adage of Symphony no 9 from “The New World” by Antonín Dvorak,and the finale of the Dance of the Hours of “La Gioconda” by Amilcare Ponchielli. “A triumph of music and beauty in general”, as Ambassador Francesco Saverio Nisio defined the concert.
