The exhibition entitled “LEONARDO DA VINCI. Masterpieces and Flying machines” opened in one of the most beautiful palaces in the historical centre of Jeddah. Organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Jeddah, the exhibition features stunning digital reproductions of paintings and drawings on flying machines by the genius of the Italian Renaissance who died in Amboise 500 years ago.
It is hosted in the recently-restored Sharbatly House where it will run until mid November. The exhibition is part of a series of events to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo. The show is organized in partnership with the Italian Cultural Association Save the Artistic Heritage, whose mission is to promote Italy’s historical and artistic heritage through the digitalization of masterpieces from the Renaissance.
It is a unique exhibition in its own right for it breaks ground being the first thematic exhibition featuring only DAW high-quality digital reproductions and it is one of the first exhibitions of Western figurative art totally accessible to the public following a recent strategy launched by Saudi Arabia with a view to fostering a “cultural renaissance” and promoting tourism. The exhibition enjoys the support of the Saudi Ministry of Culture in conjunction with several local and Italian sponsors. And precisely for being a unique event, the “LEONARDO DA VINCI.
Masterpieces and Flying machines” exhibition is recording a remarkable success especially among young people, who are the most interested in learning about Western culture.
