Cyprus: fairy tales and tales of the Italian tradition

The Italian Embassy in Nicosia, adhering to the #WeAreItaly initiative, proposes two events to share fairy tales and tales of Italian folk tradition at home and celebrate together the centenary of Gianni Rodari’s birth. In collaboration with the Fairytale Museum of Nicosia, the Embassy offers a streaming reading of fairy tales from the works of Gianni Rodari and the collection ‘Favole italiane’ by Italo Calvino. To read them, daily for two weeks on the social channels of the Embassy, will be the actor Cesare Capitani, graduated from the “Paolo Grassi” Civic School of Dramatic Art and the ex-Piccolo Theatre of Milan created by Giorgio Strehler. Capitani acts both in classical plays and in contemporary theatre performances. His readings will then remain available on the YouTube channel. To remember Gianni Rodari and his ‘Favole al telefono’, the Embassy has also organised a ‘reading on the phone’ for children with the Fairytale Museum volunteers. Finally, through the Museum’s Facebook page, a prize competition will be launched. Children will be invited to paint a place in Italy they would like to visit. The best works will receive some books by Gianni Rodari donated by the Italian Embassy.
