The need for close international cooperation to develop a vaccine against COVID-19 was the focus of the round table on scientific cooperation between Italy and the US held last May 29th in Washington.
The Ambassador of Italy in Washington, Armando Varricchio, introduced the event retracing the exceptional level of scientific cooperation between Italy and the United States, from Enrico Fermi’s discoveries to the gravitational waves, which is now enriched with a new chapter thanks to the common struggle to defeat the pandemic.
The speakers, including three Italians Prof. Cristina Cassetti, Prof. Pier Paolo Pandolfi and Prof. Guido Silvestri, shared their personal experiences in the fight against Coronavirus, stressing the added value of teamwork between Italian and American researchers, the constant and transparent exchange of information, the sharing of talents and creativity gained in different contexts. The results are encouraging.
