On the occasion of the Festa della Musica (Musci Festival) 2020, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo offers a concert by Remo Anzovino, famous pianist and composer, and Flavio Boltro, one of the most prominent jazz trumpet players on the world stage, who together will perform an unpublished live online.
For Anzovino this is a return, albeit virtual, to Tokyo, but on this occasion his compositions will be enriched by the lyricism of Boltro’s trumpet, which will make them even more evocative and touching.
Among the songs on the program Galilei, Cammino nella notte, Vincent, Igloo, Following light.
A link will soon be available to attend the concert, which will begin at 20:00 on June 21 (Tokyo time).

Remo Anzovino
The pianist and composer Remo Anzovino is considered one of the most innovative and eclectic exponents of contemporary instrumental music. After the latest album of unreleased Nocturne, recorded between Tokyo, London, Paris and New York and released by Sony Classical, Anzovino won the Nastro D’Argento (Silver Ribbon) award in 2019 for the original soundtracks of the films Hitler contro Picasso e gli altri (Hitler versus Picasso and the others), Van Gogh tra il grano e il cielo (Van Hogh between wheat and sky) and Le ninfee di Monet (The waterlilies of Monet) for the highly successful series La grande arte al cinema (The great art at the cinema) by Nexo Digital.
Critics praise him for his narrative strength, talent for melody and composing intelligence. In 2018 he received international appreciation with an invitation to the London Jazz Festival. In 2019 he played in Tokyo, Osaka, Washington, Chicago, and New York. In 2019 he published the soundtrack of the film Frida viva la vida on the life of Frida Kahlo and currently continues his concert activity in Italy, in piano solo and with the show La grande storia dell’Impressionismo (The great history of impressionism) together with the art critic Marco Goldin.
Flavio Boltro
He is one of the greatest Italian trumpet players, active for over twenty years on the world jazz scene. After graduating from the Conservatory of Turin, he has performed alongside musicians of great stature such as Cedar Walton, Bob Berg, Don Cherry, Billy Hart and Billy Higgins. He was for four years a permanent member of the French ONJ – Orchestre National du Jazz and later of Michel Petrucciani’s sextet. The first albums under his name, Road Runner (1999) and 40° (2002) were both released by the prestigious Blue Note label. Important are also his collaborations with the main names of Italian jazz, from Stefano Di Battista to Danilo Rea.
A decisive experience for him is the formation of a trio with Manu Roche on drums and Furio Di Castri on double bass, which in its third year becomes a quartet with the entry of the great American saxophonist Joe Lovano.
In 2017 Boltro launches a new artistic project in trio with Mattia Barbieri (drums) and Mauro Battisti (double bass). The idea of the trio without a harmonic instrument, such as piano or guitar, was born from the artist’s need to have more sound freedom and focus on interaction with the rhythm section.
In an interview on Down Beat in November 1998 Wynton Marsalis points out Boltro as one of the best trumpet players on the world jazz scene.
