Paris, Ambassador Castaldo at the Pompeii exhibition opening

The Italian Ambassador to France, Teresa Castaldo, together with the Minister of Culture Franck Riester inaugurated yesterday the Pompeii exhibition at the Grand Palais Museum in Paris. Also present were former Minister of Culture Jack Lang, the Director-General of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Massimo Osanna, the President of the Réunion des muséesnationaux et du Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, Chris Dercon, and the President of the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research, Dominique Garcia.

The inauguration, postponed since March due to the health emergency, “represents today a sign of hope and recovery in a picture that sees the cultural sector strongly affected by the pandemic,” said Ambassador Castaldo.

The exhibition immerses the visitor in the heart of Pompeii, during its splendour and the tragedy of its destruction, through 360° high definition projections, sound creations and 3D reconstructions of streets and houses. Thanks to the combination of technology and archaeology, the exhibition always tells the fascinating history of this city and the rediscoveries made possible by the excavations carried out, up to the present day.

By sharing the latest archaeological treasures and discoveries, the exhibition offers a new kind of experience. It allows you to see Pompeii in different ways.
