Under the patronage of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, the Cermak Eisenkraft Gallery has set up an original exhibition in the exhibition spaces of the multipurpose SmetanaQ building, entitled “Behind the Mirror”. Through the works of two world-famous contemporary artists, the Italian Marco Bagnoli and the Czech-born French Vladimír Škoda, it provides an innovative look at the historical context of both artists and their creative resources.
The artists deal with similar themes in their creations, linked in particular to reflections on the idea of space and time. However, in spite of their common characteristics, the results of their work differ according to specific individual characteristics. The medium that both connects and divides their work is the way in which they use reflective surfaces; the interaction between their visual research can also be interpreted as a confrontation between parallel traces of memory which, while being completely independent, nevertheless at some point recognize each other and intersect. The curator of the exhibition, which runs until 24 September, is the Czech art historian Miroslava Hájek, who has been living in Italy since 1969.
