Doha: an exhibition of Italian jewellery

The exhibition “Diva! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery”, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is on view at the ART29 gallery of the W Hotel in Doha on the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Qatar.

This splendid collection of about 200 pieces – curated by Alba Cappellieri, professor at the Milan Polytechnic and Director of the Vicenza Jewellery Museum – recounts the story of Italian fashion jewellery and interprets the evolution of style from the 1950s until today, reflecting the social and cultural transformations of our country.

The exhibition presents the fruitful intertwining of craftsmanship, design and fashion, showing how the quality of jewellery is not only given by the preciousness of the materials, but also by the added value that derives from the creative process, research, and innovation. From the period of the Dolce Vita and Prêt-à-Porter up to the new millennium, the masterpieces on display lead the visitor to discover the elegance and refinement of Italian fashion jewellery.

In recent days, among other things, Alba Cappellieri has met with the students and tutors of the Fashion Department of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, at the ART29 gallery, for a discussion about the intersection between fashion and jewellery, and to present the uniqueness of Italian expertise and  know-how.
